DECK BEAMS

The deck beams are made of British Columbian Douglas Fir. We tried making some beams out of a solid timber but when we tested them they split so we had to laminate each one. Laminating is a lot of work but the result is extremely strong.

We have some more Douglas Fir for the carlins which has a slightly coarser grain, it looks like it's from further south, probably Oregon Pine.

PORT HOLES

Cutting the cabin sides for the bronze portholes. The tidy way to do it is with a router in a template.
